Facial Cosmetic Surgery near Boston, Massachusetts and Maine in New Hampshire
If you are dissatisfied with one facial feature or another, you are not alone. Many people wish that they could change something about their appearance, whether it's a result of the aging process or something that has bothered them since birth. That is why Dr. Lawrence N. Gray has mastered the art of facial cosmetic surgery. Boston, Massachusetts, Maine, and New Hampshire residents, and even patients from around the country, come to Atlantic Plastic Surgery Center in Portsmouth, New Hampshire to take advantage of Dr. Gray's skill and artistic touch. Atlantic Plastic Surgery Center offers the following cosmetic surgery procedures to enhance your facial features:
Rhinoplasty
Nose enhancement, or rhinoplasty, is one of the most popular procedures in cosmetic surgery. At our New Hampshire facility near Maine and Boston, Massachusetts, we perform rhinoplasty to:
- increase or reduce the size
- modify the size or shape of the nostrils, tip, or bridge
- alter the slope or angle of the nose
- correct an injury or birth defect
- improve breathing
Who is a Good Candidate?
Anyone who is unhappy with certain characteristics of his or her nose and is over 15, by which time the nose is fully developed, is a good candidate for rhinoplasty cosmetic surgery. Patients with breathing problems, diagnosed as a deviated septum, are covered by most insurance companies. Often patients will elect to combine correction of the breathing problem with further cosmetic improvements.
Rhinoplasty Surgery
Rhinoplasty is performed under either local or general anesthesia at our outpatient cosmetic surgery facility near Boston, Massachusetts and Maine in New Hampshire. Dr. Gray may elect to make the incision from inside the nose, depending on the nature of the problem. A splint is applied to help your nose maintain its new form. The procedure usually takes between one and two hours, depending on the extent of the problem.
After Rhinoplasty Surgery
Following surgery, bruising and swelling will occur, but can be alleviated with cold compresses and are usually gone within two weeks. Splints, stitches, and packing, if used, are usually removed in about five days. You can usually return to work or non-strenuous activities within a week. There is surprisingly minimal pain after rhinoplasty. If needed, Dr. Gray may prescribe a mild pain killer.

Facelift
The facelift surgery we perform at Atlantic Plastic Surgery Center is more effective and natural looking than ever. Patients who undergo this revolutionary cosmetic surgery simply look rested and healthy, instead of looking "lifted."
Facelifts last longer than ever before with current surgical technologies and advancements. Dr. Gray can now tighten up not only the skin, but also the underlying tissue. Follow-up procedures can be performed over time to keep you looking good.
Facelift Surgery
A facelift is a cosmetic surgery procedure whereby the excess skin that is loose and sagging on the face and neck is removed. Eyelid surgery can also be done at the same time if there are bags or pouches around the eyes. Sometimes a brow lift is also performed to get the best result. The operation usually takes from one to three hours and is almost always done on an outpatient basis with local anesthesia and sedation.
Dr. Gray makes every effort to keep the scarring to a minimum. The incisions are made along natural skin lines and creases. Most of the scars are in the hairline and behind the ears. Incisions made at the front of the ears can be easily hidden with camouflage make-up.
A facelift tightens the excess skin and tissue, lessening and eliminating wrinkles and lines, and brings back the younger, more natural contours of your face. Contact Atlantic Plastic Surgery Center for more information about facelifts and other cosmetic surgery. Our New Hampshire surgical facility, near Maine and Boston, Massachusetts, is equipped to perform the latest, most advanced facelift surgery possible.
The short scar facelift, also known as the “mini-facelift”, often allows the patient to postpone the need for a full facelift for years. Many patients opt to have a mini-facelift before sagging facial skin becomes pronounced enough to require a full facelift. With a mini-facelift, shorter incisions are made around the ears and only minimal incisions are needed in the hairline. There is less bruising and recovery time is shorter than with a full facelift.

Eyelid Lift (Blepharoplasty)
Eyelid lift surgery (or blepharoplasty) is the preferred treatment for removing bags under the eyes or drooping eyelids, conditions that can add years to your appearance and even impair your vision. Although eyelid lift surgery can make you look - and feel - years younger, it is not a substitute for other kinds of cosmetic surgery and will not eliminate wrinkles, crow’s-feet, or dark circles under the eyes.
Eyelid lift surgery may be performed under local anesthesia on an outpatient basis. Dr. Gray will make tiny incisions along the natural lines of your eyelids, through which excess fat, skin, and muscle is removed. The incisions are closed with fine sutures, which will leave scars that are practically invisible.

Laser Skin Resurfacing
Lasers have had a huge impact on the practice of cosmetic surgery. Based between Boston, Massachusetts and Maine in New Hampshire, Atlantic Plastic Surgery Center is now proud to offer laser skin resurfacing to our patients.
Lasers work by emitting a powerful beam of light, which causes a superficial burn of the skin. As layers of dead skin cells are replaced by new living cells, the skin tightens and grows back smoother and wrinkle-free. Among the advantages of laser skin resurfacing is that there is usually no need for general anesthesia or hospitalization, there is no cutting or blood involved, and there is normally no scarring.
Lasers are effective for treating sun-damaged skin, mild acne scarring, age spots and skin discolorations, and many facial scars and wrinkles. Other effective laser surgery applications include treating spider and/or varicose veins, hair removal, and tattoo removal.
