Dysport

Similar to Botox Cosmetic, but has advantages

Dysport is a new product, similar to Botox Cosmetic, used to reduce wrinkles between the eyebrows, across the forehead, around the eyes (crow’s feet) and at the outside corners of the mouth. Dysport takes just a few minutes and lasts 3 to 4 months. With repeated treatments, the effects may last up to 6 months.

Both Botox Cosmetic and Dysport (medically known as Botulinum Toxin type A) are a natural, purified protein used to treat the cause of the wrinkle---overactive muscles -- by blocking the signals that tell those muscles to contract. This can be done partially or totally, depending on the desired effect. Botox Cosmetic is now FDA approved to treat wrinkles. Dysport is also FDA approved for the treatment of wrinkles. Both products have been used in Europe for almost 20 years.

Both Dysport and Botox Cosmetic are safe and highly effective to smooth wrinkles. But, Dysport works faster –in only 1-3 days vs. 4-7 days for Botox Cosmetic. And Dysport is a better value per unit than Botox Cosmetic. Both Botox Cosmetic and Dysport are injected with a very small needle in tiny amounts to the recommended area. An important distinction is that Botox and Dysport are measured differently (much like feet vs. meters) which accounts for the difference in pricing. Dysport costs less for the same treatment. The effects of Botox and Dysport usually last 3-4 months, however with repeated treatments, the effects may last up to 6 months.

When administered properly by a highly trained clinician, you will still be able to make normal facial expressions, but without the wrinkles or frown lines. The vast majority of patients are extremely happy with the results of a Botox Cosmetic or Dysport treatment. Patients commonly report that that other people tell them that they appear “rested”.
