Rebeca

In Guatemala, a young mother had a baby girl, Rebeca, who had an incomplete cleft palate, meaning that the division of her tissue above the lip did not go all the way into her nose. The child would have suffered ridicule or shunning by the time she was school age had this not been repaired.Luckily, the mother heard a radio advertisement about Rotaplast International being in the area for two weeks and she contacted the organizers. She brought her baby six hours by bus from their rural area to the town where Rotaplast was performing surgeries, even though the bus fare may have cost the equivalent of two to three weeks of food. Dr. Gray repaired the baby’s lip and is sure that the mother and child will be much happier with the improved lip.
